It seems strange to be writing about October events in November for publication in February—but, hey, that's what I'm being paid to do. Dartmouth's Homecoming Weekend October 12-14 was notable on several accounts: Tom Komarek hosted a very successful mini-reunion, Dartmouth beat Yale in driving rain-altered Memorial "pool," and my wife and I spent the night in the back of a station wagon. Regarding the last notable first, Mary, Vic, and I had planned to camp under the stars on our land in Strafford, Vt. On Friday night, after a great bonfire, the heavens opened up just as we approached the old campsite. Strafford disappears at midnight, hence our flirtation with Volvo's interior engineering (wheel wells are pure hell).
The Komarek mini included a pizza rendezvous on Friday night and a rain-swept Saturday picnic on the porch between Lord and Streeter, and it was capped off by a Saturday night feed attended by some 54 classmates and family. Tom had arranged for Dartmouth's very successful track coach, Vin Lananna, to speak to us over-SOites. Despite the rain and the sleeping arrangements, and because of the fellowship and the football score, it was a very successful weekend.
On Saturday morning, between typhoons, Gene Gasbarro kicked off a class meeting which concentrated on improving our Alumni Fund performance. I am sure you will be hearing more of these plans from MikeRouzee in the near future. '62s in attendance included the Clark boys (Cary and John),Bernie Jacobs, Tom Komarek, Bill Sadd,Ben Vogel, John Walters, Bill Whaley and Gordy Williamson.
