I'd like to introduce myself as your new class secretary and tenured tour director, continuing to handle all reunions. Because of this dual responsibility, at times there will be a combination of Class Notes and mini happenings!
I officially begin my first column by saying that I'm the "new kid on the block," and just how good I will be depends on you and your ability and desire to let me know what's going on out there. It will be your fault should I become a very bad boy!
Let me touch briefly on our glorious 55th, expanding on Gene's excellent column describing the highlights. Danny .Marshall will have pictures taken by our "official" 35 SLR photographer Pat Gorman. Russ and Alice Tolles were busy throughout recording; class history on their Sony Camcorder.
I wish I could find the words to tell you of the intense feeling, excitement, and camaraderie enjoyed by all present during our two and a half-plus days of Reunion 55. From comments received during, and from notes and calls afterwards, it was obvious that it was, to quote HankMcDuff, "the best reunion ever!" The College Alumni Office wrote stating, "you and your class put on one of the finest 55th reunions of all time." I'm sorry you weren't all there, but to those who were, again my personal thanks for making my job so enjoyable. Sincere "kudos" to Jack and AnnGraham, Johnny Scotford, Lee Mann, EdnaThorne, and Tel Mook for making it so easy for Jean and I, and everyone, to enjoy every minute of it.
With the 55th now history, may I ask that you contemplate the 60th? In the meantime, the minis are an excellent lead to it. There won't be one this fall, but next month I'll mention a new format I want to try, with your blessing. Regardless, you'll enjoy, so start thinking of Saturdays in late September or early October.
And now for a few tidbits gleaned from the reunion correspondence. The Gil Smalls are spending their summer in Rockland, Ontario, baby-sittin? their grandchildren. Royce Randlett is enjoying (?) his new pacemaker and could be getting ready for a new knee. GeorgePorter shared news of his visit to the Caribbean and wife Lela's tour of Italy and France. Interesting and understanding notes were received from Dave Pallister, Bob Pollack, and Bob Southworth, and from widows Ginny Mercer, Mary Helen Hallock, and Em Dow.
Class thanks to Jack Russell, Gil Tanis, and their motley crew of money rustlers for their efforts to raise funds for our reunion gift.
My word limit is fast approaching, so until next month, please make me a "good boy." In closing, a quote from Ann Landers: "People do not stop doing things because they get older; they get older because they stop doing things!"
