Jack Karr, who had minor heart complications a while ago, is now back in good health. Unfortunately, his wife, Marge, snapped two vertebrae in her lower back and, after a few months of calcium buildup, she is having surgery at Massachusetts General, with an excellent prognosis. If this wasn't enough, they sold their home in South Natick and moved into a health care facility in Millis, Massachusetts. Luckily, they have a son and daughter living nearby, who, as Jack says, are taking care of their "younger parents." If Marges recuperative powers are as they expect, they will be with us for this fall's mini-reunion.

Which reminds me...As you read this, the reunion is only a few weeks away! To remind the undecided, it is over "Yale Weekend," Friday and Saturday, October 6-7. Ten rooms have been reserved at the Econolodge on Airport Road in West Lebanon (603) 229-8888. Please come; you will enjoy! You have received my letters giving you all the details.

I had a nice chat with Jim Sutcliffe, a Newton friend of mine, who retired from his Boston construction company and moved to the Cape, where he bought/built two motels in Dennisport. However, he recently converted these to condos, reserving two for guests. "Come on down," says Jim. He, and his wife, Marion, have been spending the last 15 years wintering in Florida. "But the Cape has just too much to leave for permanent residency."

Quoting from Dwight Parkinson's column in the Medical School's magazine: "John God-freys freys wife, Jean, has had three total hip replacements. He has had to give up skiing and skating because of a numb left foot, secondary to spinal stenosis. Otherwise, he is enjoying his kids and grandkids. He says he never expected to be an octogenarian."

Thanks to Ann Landers: "Thank God for every morning getting up that you have something that must be done, like it or not. Being forced to work will breed in you a hundred virtues that the idle will never know."
