There are three things working against me this month in writing this column. First, lack of ability. You folks should've voted for Bob Bauer. Second, I've yet to receive a listing of current classmate addresses and telephone numbers. Consequently, I've had to rely to an uncomfortable extent on the alleged accuracy of Jody(Palermo) Teevens's recollections. Third, and not least, my wife, Kathy, who was seven months pregnant at the reunion, has just gone into labor with our first child. Gotta write fast.

On the bambino front, the proliferation of '82 offspring is so rapid and voluminous that even the locusts are pausing in silent admiration. To wit, Jody and Scott Teevens recently celebrated the birth of their third child, Stacie, who, with older siblings Alexis and Joey, will surely cause the teachers in the Westboro, Mass., school system to seriously consider early-retirement legislation. Jody also informs me that her brother-in-law and fellow '82 Shaun Teevens and his wife, Lisa, have a ninemonth-old infant son, Shaun Jr. Shaun and family are residing "somewhere in New Jersey, sey," where Shaun Sr. is "knocking 'em dead as a big-wig vice president of some computer company." Shaun, don't hold your breath for a timely Christmas card from your sisterin-law up north! I'm also informed by Jody that J.J. (Hanley) Mlynarski and her husband Hank have recently added son Timmy to their clan, which includes four-year-old brother Chris. Brett and Sieglinde Homovec of Franklin Lakes, N.J., have announced the birth of their first child, Kyle Thomas Homovec. In die birth announcement Kyle is adorned with a number-61 University of Michigan Wolverine football jersey. Finally, moving to the southwest, Rand "Socks forCalves" Stephens and his wife, Annette 'B6, celebrated the August 3 birth of their first child, daughter Ann. Ann's backhand is already better than her father's.

From the delivery room to the board room. Adding fuel to the fire of President Clinton's recent deficit-reduction package (a.k.a. tax increase), John Donahoe was recendy named head of Bain and Company's San Francisco office. John "Tex" Strawn was recently named partner at the Houston, Texas, law firm of Beatum, Cheatum and Suem—oops, that's Cruise, Scoot and Allen. John "Bubble"Idzik, his wife, Carrol, and children reportedly live in Tampa Bay, Fla., where John is working as a scout and computer consultant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On an altogether different field, however, Dave "Moe"Howard is now working as the general counsel for the New York Mets. Dave preceded his current position with a stint as assistant general counsel in the Baseball Commissioner's office. Dave informs me that there is no truth to the rumor that the lowly lastplace Mets have hired Dr. Jack Kevorkian as the team physician.

In an effort to assure that this column will not be dominated by the fraternity/sorority/secret society/Kiewit/Collis-center types, I did make an effort to diversify the news with ten phone numbers provided by the Alumni office. The partial results: you can't contact Maureen Sullivan at (80S) 389-2900, which was reported to be the number of the Valley Veterinarian Clinic somewhere in California. If you do dial that number, however, you will reach a pleasant elderly lady by the name of Mrs. Van Doram who will speak at length about the ongoing renovations in her home. Cathy Bagley and Wendi Terlizzi are not in the College database under those names. And finally, you can't contact Bill Best in Seattle at (801) 863-2322. If you dial that number, you'll get a conference room in some corporation that, according to the answerer of my call, "only employs 7,000 people."

Let me know what's happening by contacting me at the address or telephone numbers below. Gotta go. Time to install the baby's car seat and walk Kathy to the car.
