Bill Daniels ran for the Superior Court judgeship in Monterey, Calif. Had he won he would have joined two '63s on the bench, Ernie Torres, Providence, R.I., Federal Court, and VincentDiFiglia, San Diego Municipal Court. Bill challenged Republican Governor Pete Wilson's appointee, who had been on the municipal court bench since 1989. An experienced mediator, litigator, and law teacher, Bill called for a new, "less costly and emotionally damaging" way of handling conflict to replace court-and-jury trials. Bill is a founder of the Monterey College of Law, and he and his wife, Claudia, a therapist, have twin daughters at Sarah Lawrence.

Jim Page was a three-time All American and member of the U.S. Olympic ski team. What you may not know is that he helped win four New York State high-school ski championships as a student at Lake Placid High School, and that he taught history and coached three sports after earning a Master of Arts in Teaching at Wesleyan University. All of this surely came in handy when Jim returned to his high-school alma mater as graduation speaker in June. After teaching, Jim went on, of course, to win championships as Dartmouth ski coach and to head up the Nordic program for the U.S. Ski Team. He is currently deputy executive director for programs at the U.S. Olympic Committee. Jim and Ginny have three children and live in Colorado Springs.

Tom Berger, whose iconoclastic views of British royalty have been noted by the press, has been awarded a fellowship to conduct research at Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington. Tom is professor of English at St. Lawrence University, Canton, N.Y., and served as director of the university's semester-in-London program. Recently he led seminars at the Shakespeare Association of America conference. He is a member of the Committee on the New Variorum Edition of Shakespeare, which oversees publication of new editions of the Bard's works. When asked a few years ago about the emerging rift between Charles and Diana, Tom promptly characterized the former as "growing intellectually" and the latter as "a bimbo."

Competition in the nation's utility industry, formerly sleepy and monopolistic, is heating up, and Steve Frank, president of Florida Power & Light Co., is ready. Utilities are becoming deregulated like the telecommunications industry, Steve said. Competition is emerging from independent power producers and in California from retail power distributors. "It's not simply a cost-plus business anymore." Florida Power and Light covers half the state mostly along its eastern coast. Operations are in Miami, but Steven, formerly executive vice president and chief financial officer of TRW, is at corporate headquarters in Juno Beach, not far from Jupiter where he lives with his wife, Nancy. Daughter Kerry is at University of Michigan business school; son Derek studies music at University of Miami.

Congratulations to Bob and Joyce Homboldt, Orono, Minn., on the birth of their first grandchild, Megan Nicole. Bob, a Tuck graduate, is president of Poly-Foam Inc., manufacturer of plastic foam for insulation and packaging. Joyce is earning a master's in public health at the University of Minnesota. The couple has three daughters.
