From Port Richey, Fla., we hear from Frank "Pete"Power, who attended the 1994 Commencement. Fie gathered all the Dartmouth Powers in attendance for a photo on the Green. I can't show it to you here, but it's a fine bunch including his son Stephen '61, granddaughter Jessica '96, granddaughter Sarah '94, Pete's brother Robert '43, niece Christine '81, and the proud Pete, who started it all. (Webster's defines "power": "ability to affect strongly" and "ability to influence others.")

Recently the Dartmouth College Athletic Department held its annual picnic honoring alumni who have played a significant part in the Athletic Sponsors program. Art Allen received special tribute for the many things he has done to support athletics, including creation of the sailing club (now a varsity sport), coaching sailing, and actively participating in the sponsors program . Along with thanks, a rocking chair was given to replace the rocking boat, now that he has retired from coaching.

The Welch-Allyn company of Skaneateles, N.Y., may not be known to all of us, but I doubt any of us have escaped having a Welch-Allyn instrument used upon us in the course of a medical examination. The company manufactures opthaloscopes and high-tech endoscopic tools that enable physicians to peer into the deep recesses of our anatomy. For many years BillAllyn was president of this company that his father co-founded and his sons are now managing. Bill is now writing its history.

Dick Olmsted says that the 1932 Elm (just south of the senior fence) looks well and happy.

The sad news is the death of Richard C.Merrill and Adrian A. Walser. Obituaries will appear in this magazine later.
