It would be difficult to pinpoint the best feature of Dartmouth Night and Homecoming Weekend of 1994. The football team provided last minute thrills with a come-from-behind victory over Yale, winning the game with a needed two-point conversion with Oberle carrying for a score of 14-13. The weather was crisp, clear, and perfect, serving as an adjunct to fall colors at their peak. But best was the camaraderie of classmates as 60 gathered in the Hanover Inn Tavern for dinner, talk, and song led by the indomitable Fritz Simms on the clinking keyboard. We missed the Cube, but Joyce was there, and we all paid homage to the memo ry of our own Block of Granite.
Nineteen worthies attended a spirited class meeting where we found that the class is solvent (although only 70 percent pay dues and 100 percent get this magazine). The Alumni in Schools project is grateful for our seed money, worthy in its progress, but in need of more College support. Our 40th Reunion will be held June 10-13, 1996. (A fall 40th would largely be an off-campus event, and rooms would be scarce and expensive.)
The midwinter Fun City Fantastic will be January 27—29 in New York. The usual doings at the Yale Club on Friday, a 12-course Chinese banquet on Saturday, and Hal Gordon's annual munificent brunch on Sunday. (Mark your calendars!)
Seen or heard on the Hanover Plain this memorable weekend, most with a spouse or friend were, Clem Malin, Len Clark, JackTagmani, Phil James, Dick Whitney, FritzSimms, Russ Brace, Tex Fridlund, ClifPhalen, Ted Rowe, Glen French, AbnerOakes, Line Spaulding, John's Brother, Howard Sodokoff, Hal Gordon, Bob (R. I.)Faulkner, Buster Bud Allen, Leo McKenny, Dave Kerr, Bob Slater, Bernie Martin, Mike Levy, Pete Lauterbach, BillMcGaveran, Ted Bremble, and JohnBlades.
Best wishes to all for the holiday season, and may 1995 be an even better year for each of you, the class, and the College!
