Art Armstrong replied to his birthday greeting from his home in Solvang, Calif., with thanks for being remembered.

A dearth of news from classmates set your secretary on a search for back issues of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine stashed away in a closet. Twenty-five years ago, a valedictory address critical of Dartmouth and favorable to the student unrest of the sixties brought stinging rebukes from many alumni. However, others accepted the criticism in support of freedom of speech as an essential hallmark of a Dartmouth education. Fifty years ago, the College was engaged with a V-12 Navy unit to prepare recruits for World War 11. Many classmates were noted by the then-secretary of our class, DoaneArnold, as having entered the armed services in various branches.

Our class lost a devoted and respected member when Paul Hannah died in early November a week before his 88th birthday. He was president of our class at our 50th Reunion when we turned over our sponsorship of Dick's House to the class of 1977. Paul was a member of a Boston law firm where he enjoyed a successful career for many years. He was a devoted supporter of Dartmouth and attended many of our reunions with his wife, Betty. Ruth Paddock attended the memorial service at the First Parish Church in Weston Mass., which was on Paul's birth date: November 11.
