I had a most interesting telephone visit with Roy Duckworth, who let me know that three generations of his family will be part of the Dartmouth experience with the acceptance of his granddaughter into die the next freshman class. Roy's son graduated in 1970 and Heather will do so in 1998—the year of our 60th Reunion! Roy has practically recovered from a successful second operation and is about ready to pull for a Blaik deep reverse! Unfortunately, the operation forced the postponement of a trip to Scotland he and Janet had planned. She has a new hip and is back to playing 18 holes of golf. A question—do we have other representation in the class of 1994?
Received a nice card from BettyKruschwitz, Gil's widow, thanking all of you for your thoughtfulness at the 55th. "I'm so glad I didn't miss it!" She tells of a delightful visit from Jean and Jack Godfrey, who were in Hanover attending the Alumni College. Both looked great, and they are enjoying retirement and a new home they built. (I will more than welcome news from other widows!)
From my medical files: Art Soule will soon have a new hip, Bob Ross enjoys his pacemaker, and yours truly is scheduled for cataract surgery!
Word has just been received of the deaths of Jack Lutz, Bobbie Soule, Art's wife, and Dolly Barrett, Clark's wife. All three were active participants in class activities and will be sorely missed. Bobbie was with us during the 55 th.
I heard from George Nichols who, with wife Fran is enjoying six years (so far) of living in Chatham on Cape Cod, after 36 years in Pelham, N.Y. "My time is taken up with gardening and working around the house, and we've done a fair amount of traveling both in Europe and here in tie U.S.A."
Jim Sutcliffe, another Cape Codder, called. He has retired from a successful home-construction business in Natick, Mass., and is enjoying his new home overlooking the Bass River in South Dennis, Mass.
It's that time again, and so I'll close with this Irish Blessing: "Do not resent growing old. Many are denied the privilege."
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
