Once again, I regret to have to report to you the loss of seven of our classmates...Don Boyle on December 26, 1996; Bob Cheheyl on January 17; Fritz Martin on January 31; Walt Halfrnan on March 5; Em Marsteller on March 5; Jack Graham on April 6; and Marty King on April 8. Our sympathy goes to their survivors.
Jack Russell, Phyllis Hill, and yours truly represented ',38 at this year's meeting of class officers in April. It was well planned and the messages most interesting. Along with the meeting, a most unusual happening took place...Friday brought four inches of snow to Hanover, bringing back a lot of memories. The campus is never more beautiful than when it is covered by a thin coating of the white stuff. Fortunately, heavy rains during the night washed it all away!
I received a nice letter from Johnny Mercer explaining why, for the first time, he missed last year's mini. "We were in search of a warmer and easier place to live rather than in Chicago's cold. Plus the time has come to 'down-size,' since maintenance efforts have finally become more of a chore than a pleasure. We are planning to be in attendance at the 60th."
