Twelve good men and true with an average age of 92 years and three months met in Hanover to celebrate the 70th anniversary of their graduation from Dartmouth. The 12 were Chauncey Allen, Stanley Chittick Morris Fiterman DouglasGraham, Vernon Hagenbuckle, Danahaskin Lawrence Kugelman TheodoreNilsen, Robin Robinson, Leo Stone, RolandTaylor, and Edward Winsor. All but one had been present at our last reunion in 1989.
Special mention must be made of two women among the supporting cast of wives, children, and other relatives. For the last several years Pauline Hartshorn, widow of Hank Hartshorn, has been listed on the stationery as one of the officers of the class. She has probably worked harder than many of the male officers. The other lady who deserves special mention is Pauline Morin. Pauline is the widow of Dick Morin, the longterm college librarian. Pauline, a former resident of the Hanover area, came all the way from Tucson, Ariz., to be with us.
Others present were wives (six), assembled children, in-laws, and general supporting cast. Our total personnel was 42.
At the Saturday luncheon attended by all of the reuning classes, the first item on the agenda brought '24 President Chinee Allen and Head Agent Dana Haskin up to the podium to receive an award on behalf of '24 for surpassing other classes in its age group in its support of the Alumni Fund.
I think that most of us ended up with the feeling that our reminiscences and discussions at our breakfast and dinner meetings and at other casual occasions provided the high point of the weekend. Perhaps one exception to this was the memorial service on Saturday. As I looked at the program, my thought was "I suppose we have to include such an event." My thought at the end of the service was what a wonderful, inspiring, and effective event.
