We were delighted to receive an update report on his activities from MartinUebel, the Mister Chips of Culver Academy. As he brought his teaching career to a close several years ago, the Culver Academy presented a concert series in his name as a recognition of his involvement in so many facets of Academy life over the years. (As an old clarinetist, he must have particularly appreciated this.) Then this past year, the Culver Lions granted him their Citizen of the Year award for being active in community and county affairs, which included heading the Meals on Wheels program, organizing the annual Church World Service effort, and representing his town on the county museum board. Marty has just had a total replacement of the knee which was shot up during the War, and while progress has been excellent, lawn-mowing is still out of the question.

While keeping a close watch on '33 funds, Class Treasurer Sam Cunningham manages to get out for a daily walk on the beach in Sarasota. He finds his pace reduced from "high speed" to a "stroll" due to a recent operation for an elderly gentleman's complaint. Ironically, he wrote to commiserate with us about the heat in Washington, boasting about the refreshing breezes he was enjoying.

We were proud and pleased to note that classmates Al Jennings (moon-suit fabric), Paul Weston (mood music), and Paul Zamecnik (unlocking proteins' secrets) were listed in DAM's special April issue as being among those Dartmouth alumni making gifts to the world. And unless our eyes deceived us, Marshall Newman and Ad Thurber were among those pictured making their contribution to mankind by donning shorts on one mad spring day in the early thirties when the campus erupted in a frenzy of gam-showing.

Polly Levensaler has written us in appreciation of the Class Memorial Book purchase in memory of her husband, Atwood . She notes its appropriateness in view of his interest in poetry and books.
