Eureka! The class of '74 has achieved yet another milestone: A real live e-mail message from a fellow classmate to the class secretary. John Kemeny would have been so proud, especially given all of the time and energy he put into our class to help make us computer-literate.
Let's 5ee...21 years in the making? So c'mon gang, it's really not as difficult to do as it may seem. Please give it a try.
Back to our cyber-column. Don Fournier reports:
"Don—This is only the second time in 21 years that I write to the Class Notes column. Ah, the ease of e-mail!
"I am managing the technical publications group for Progress Software Corp. in Bedford, Mass. I live in Manchester, N.H., with my wife, Simone, and my three children, Nikolas (16), Alexa (14), and Noah (13). Simone and I are celebrating our 19th anniversary this month. Nik is an artist; Alexa and Noah are scholar-athletes, into baseball and basketball. We are all heavily involved in church and community activities.
"I wonder what's become of the old Richardson Hall crew: Mark Mahoney, Bruce Hendershot, Jon Cleary, Jon Blum, Mike Freebern, John Cart, Pat Lau?
Regards, Don."
So there You have it.
I was eavesdropping on one of Sen. Phil Gramm's speeches while he was touring New Hampshire back in August and heard him drop U.S. Rep. Charlie Bass' name. So keep your eyes and ears open for this up and comer.
Meantime, our pre-eminent and able-bodied class newsletter editor, Richard "Rick" Ranger, also checks in on-line:
"We traveled to France for three weeks at the end of June/first half of July, after which I went right back to the Slope. Upon our arrival back from France, I accepted a new position as director of Alaska maritime affairs for ARCO Marine Inc. (a.k.a. AMI) in Anchorage.
"This new job will also make me AMI's ambassador, flak catcher, and dispute resolver with the Prince William Sound Regional Citizen's Advisory Council, the commercial fishing interests, the native interests, and the communities of Valdez, Cordova, Kodiak, Whittier, and Seward. It's a mix of crisis response and preparedness, politics, operations, and environmental compliance that will help assure that oil continues to be transported safely from Alaska.
"I start the week after Labor Day. Kind of a long, strange trip from Sanborn House, isn't it?"
And speaking of a long, strange trip, may we have an official moment of silence for Cap'n Trips, whose spirit lived across the Hanover Plain way back then (and still does now).
I remember seeing Jerry Garcia and the Dead at Boston Garden (after a $6 dinner at the No-Name Restaurant) shortly after they released their ever-famous Europe '72 threerecord masterpiece that played on and on and on.
E-mail me.
