The 45th annual Matt Jones Round-up of '94 occurred on October 2 at the home of Mr. Vincent Merrill, Charlie Merrill's younger son, in the town of Lincoln, Mass. The host and hostess were Mr. and Mrs C. C. Merrill. This autumn round-up was started in 1914, and since Matt's death it has been continued as a sort of recurrent memorial to him. There are at present only 12 surviving members of the Class of '94, four of whom were present - Merrill, Ames, Stone and Marden. In all, 24 sat down at table, 14 guests and 10 members of the Merrill clan. The guests included three wives of living classmates - Mrs. Ames, Mrs. Stone and Mrs. Merrill. Sons of classmates were C.C.'s two boys, John Leverett and Vincent, and the current "Billy" Mann, all of them Dartmouth alumni. Daughters present were Catherine (Jones) Babcock, (Matt's daughter), Gus Sawyer's daughter Ruth, and Clare Brockinier, who is Phil Marden's step-daughter. There were also Jack, Bobby and Richard Merrill, C.C.'s grandsons, all of whom are registered in future Dartmouth classes. Widows of deceased classmates present at the Round-up were Mrs. J. P. Gifford, Mrs. Fred L. Smalley, Mrs. G. B. Sawyer and Mrs. G. E. Mann. The wives of the two Merrill sons. Mrs. John L., and Mrs. Vincent Merrill were also there, and two friends of our classmates, Mrs. Larrabee and Mrs. Johnson.
Letters were read from seven absent classmates, and from eight widows of others. In all, 51 members of the '94 family were represented in person or by proxy. In recognition of his long and faithful service as the class secretary, C. C. Merrill was presented a "Paul Revere" silver bowl, suitably inscribed. The weather was perfect and the setting delightful - and, as always, "a good time was had by all." The class looks forward to its 65th reunion in June, at Hanover.
