Gail Fondahl has taken a teaching job at Canada's newest university, the University of Northern British Columbia (opened fall 1994). She's also carrying out research on indigenous land rights in Siberia. For the last three years Gail's research has taken her to the tundras of Siberia (including a five-month stay in 1994). "This year," she writes, "the exchange reversed direction, as a group of my indigenous Siberian colleagues came to Northern BC to confer with First Nations groups here about paths to selfgovernment—and comparative moosehidetanning techniques. My husband, Ken Bilski, telecommutes from home, developing software for a company based in Maryland. Our daughter, Gwynne, just began kindergarten in a French-immersion program—no Russian immersion program being available."
