Many of us have reached an age when signing on for residence in a retirement community is attractive. Babs Bankart, Reg's widow, is moving from Heritage Village in Southbury, Conn., to Thornton Oaks in Brunswick, Maine. She will not only be close to her eldest daughter, but will also be in the same complex as Polly and Dick Muzzy, who are moving from Grantham, N.H.
As a class we are indeed fortunate to have such a large group of loyal wives and widows. Carolyne Zieman, Sax's widow, put it succinctly: "I think we are an unusually wonderful class." Just before the recent minireunion Eileen Cahoon, Bud's widow, wrote "Don't know about September, but keeping it open" (she came!). Margarete VanAntwerpen, Paul's wife, told us, "We had a grand time at the recent reunion. It was good to see some familiar faces as well as many new." Peg Harvey, Jon's wife, remarked, "It was good to get back to Hanover, and we're looking forward to the BIG 60th!" IreneCrane, Carl's widow, noted, "Will not be able to attend the fall festivities but will be considering the 60th, as Carlyle would have been to both with bells on his toes." Stephanie Kaiser, How's widow, has just moved back to a duplex loft in Manhattan and "would love to hear from Howard's friends in N.Y.C."
Many of our wives, particularly FlorrieFitzhugh, have participated in various class activities over a span of several years. The wives of those of us responsible for activities related to the 60th reunion are busily engaged in the planning. In addition, a group of widows consisting, among others, of Lois Brown,Ruby Field, Lou Hawkins, and Ellie Smith are similarly engaged.
All members of The Great Class of 1935 will be receiving notices and information about our 60th Reunion June 12-14, 1995. This will undoubtedly be a great occasion, and the sooner you make your plans to attend, the better. There should be no excuse for us not to surpass the existing record for attendance at a 60th, held by the class of 1934 (73 classmates and a total of 141).
