Greetings. I'm starting off the new year with some bits and pieces of news from all over.
I'll start with Chris Pratt, who is currently an LCDR (I think that means lieutenant commander) with the United States Navy and has spent a good deal of time in the Philippines. Chris recently wrote a great letter to me about his tour of duty in the Philippines with his wife, Joan, and their son, Taylor, class of 2006. Chris has obviously been an eyewitness to the fall of Marcos, the rise of Aquino, and all of the turmoil in the Philippines over the past few years. But despite it all, Chris describes the Philippines as "almost paradise . . . the beaches and all water sports are fantastic, including some of the best scuba diving in the world. The cost of living is right .... Aside from a mere 15 feet of rain from June to September the weather is beautiful." Classmates beware: Chris warns all of us that the "Pratt lodge and tour-guide service shuts down" during those months.
Chet Homer and I had a chance to catch up when our paths crossed recently in Boston. Chet is currently residing in Kennebunkport, Maine, a beautiful town on the southern coast of Maine. Chet is involved in various entrepreneurial and venture capital endeavors but makes sure to get together with old friends and fraternity brothers Dave Sullivan and Tuck Bailey every fall for their annual golf outing.
Russ Kelley sees the end in sight for his radiology residency at Tufts New England Medical Center. Russ and Pat and their four children currently reside in Sudbury, Mass.
Kevin O'Shea is practicing law in Elmira, N.Y. Bruce Ling is now a senior officer with Citibank in Toronto. My latest information is that Jake Johnston continues to teach, coach, and counsel at a high school near Toronto. And Mark Graziano has opened up his own medical practice in southern Maine.
Finally, congratulations and best wishes are due to my ol' doubles partner, friend, and teammate, Bill Kellogg, who is reportedly now the head honcho of the beautiful La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club in La Jolla, Calif. Rumor also has it that Bill's tennis game is still as sharp as ever, so visiting classmates beware.
That's it for now. For an update on Alumni Council activities, please see my report in the front of the magazine. When you have a chance, send along some news of yourself or other classmates. See you next month.
