I told you last month I was going to start with the "A's" and go through our class roster. Upon more sober reflection I calculated that it would take about 20 years to do that, but I did go to the "B's" this month, with some results. So here we go
Dewitt "Bud" Baker is in New York City, for 12 years now, and still running his business, Natalis Press Inc. Says he'd like to retire, but he's too busy. He took an exciting trip last year to the Antarctic region. Gosh, wasn't it cold enough in Hanover? This year he's off to the Baltic Sea region. Yes, "'round the girdled earth they roam." Does anyone know what "girdled" means? Anyway, good for you Bud, and enjoy.
Found Ross Bacon down in Lady Lake, Fla. He retired in 1984 after a somewhat diverse career. He had been in the insurance business for years but chucked it and took up teaching. He taught in such exotic places as the Virgin Islands, South Carolina, and New York City. For recreation? Plays golf, of course!
Craig Bedle is in Guilford, Conn. Retired since 1984, he was last with Deloitte & Touche in the big city. He also spent several years in Europe with American Express. He plays a little golf (with a big handicap) and is active with singing groups.
Still in Connecticut is Al Behnkie. Al's still practicing law in Bridgeport. He humbly acknowledged that he's an expert in matrimonial law, and, knowing Al, I expect he is. He was just back from a convention in that field in New Orleans, which ain't bad, even without conventions. His golf game is on hold because of rotator-cuff problems, but he expects to be out whacking the ball in the near future.
Traveled up the coast a bit to Brunswick, Maine, notable because Bob Bensing lives there. He's near Casco Bay in a house he's been building for years. Retired in 1978 from the insurance business, he's the baritone soloist in his church and a substitute teacher in the local high school. I thought you were retired, Bob.
I then reached across the continent and found Hugh Bennett in Orange County, Calif. He retired in 1980 from the pharmaceutical" business. He's taken up painting (oils), and some of his work is on permanent display in California museums. And that's not all—he's doingsome writing, mostly about California history. Is this a great class, or what?
More honors for our Whitey Burnham. The latest is his election to the National Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame. Congrats, Whitey and well-deserved.
Tom Adams tells me that our Alumni Fund is progressing nicely. We have a more modest goal this year, so let's make it. Thanks to all who have given, and for the rest of you, get off your donation before the Internal Revenue nails you on April 15. And don't forget the event of the century our 50th in '96!
I am sorry to close on a sad note, but I have been advised of the death of our classmate Stephen Kaplan. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family.
