Jack Bassett is no longer with DuPont and has established himself as an independent consultant dealing with businesses involved with chemicals and energy. Having passed the CPA exam recently, he will be expanding his business to include a public-accounting practice. Moving from the athletic sublime to the ridiculous, Bruce Alpert attended Mickey Mantle's Fantasy Baseball Camp and sent along his "baseball card." It shows him at home plate, bat in hand, pointing to centerfield. His physique does resemble the Babe's, but the sunglasses are a sure giveaway that this guy is an amateur. In a game against Yankee alumni, Bruce got a hit to centerfield and was almost thrown out at first by Mickey Rivers. Bruce's family has Dartmouth stamped all over it sons Seth '93' (in med school) and Jeremy '95 (headed for law school) and dad '32. When not collecting or posing for baseball cards, Bruce travels extensively for research presentations and reviews for the National Institutes of Health.

J. William Allen is now the CEO of the company that bears his name. Bill first joined his father's firm in 1981 as director of engineering leading the company's facilities expansion. In 1988 he was elected president.

Those of you in the Chicago area might look through Chicago magazine to see the name of editor Richard Babcock. Dick took over in 1991 and has worked hard to put out a leaner product. It now emphasizes guides, along with profiles on the powerful and influential. Dick believes there is such a thing as a general-interest magazine with the main thrust being toward good stories.

And finally, Stephen Bates has joined the Norwalk Community Technical College Inc. board of directors. He also serves on the board of the Stamford Symphony. When not volunteering in his community, Steve finds time to be vice president of Shawmut Bank Connecticut N.A.
