This month we must report three more good men lost to the grim reaper. BobWehmeyer passed on just before Christmas on December 22, 1999, and Joe Newman died on December 27, 1999. The College reported the death of Dick Dunham, based on three pieces of returned mail marked "deceased." When last heard from, Dick was living in Alexandria, Va. According to Jim Corner, Dick's wife, Dorothy, died some few years ago. We know he had three children, but none of our sleuths have managed to get any further details. We and the College would welcome hearing from anyone who knows more.
We had a nice note from Bill Borsdorff down the line in Tequesta, Fla., in response to a birthday card. Bill says he has kind of lost touch with Hanover, but was not so far out of touch that he hadn't read about the administration's concern over the Greek system. He suggests that his best friends at Dartmouth were fellow Zetes. Bill is battling macular degeneration and suffering other frailties but still enjoying life. He plays golf twice a week and runs into Andy Ruoff at the same club. He also keeps an eye out for Buzz Waters, who also is quartered in Tequesta, but has yet to see him.
Jim Garnett writes that he and Cay delayed their trip south to Sanibel Island, Fla., as they have been busy watching an ailing daughter, who, from last reports, is recovering.
Moreau Brown brings up an interesting point born of his visit to Hanover over the 200th anniversary of the Daily Dartmouth. He says a trustee from the College advised him that the trustees own the College. Brownie disagrees, stating that President Hopkins always said that the College belonged to the alumni. Who is correct?
Tom Foote's wife, Anne, died in April of 1996 after 52 years of marriage. On December 22, 1999, Tom took a new bride, a girl he has known since 1980, and now has a new address: 2352 Middlecoff Court, Titusville, FL 32780; (321) 2670148. His e-mail address is tom-andphoebe@webtv.net. Colin Holman writes, "If I live another year like this one, I stand a good chance of shooting my age on our course." And finally, we are looking forward to seeing Skip and Penny Morse down here in Vero Beach in March. They are coming down to see Skip's brother John '44, a local, who has just taken a wife.
