Those of you who live on the West Coast are no doubt aware of Good Guys stores. What you probably don't know is that Bob Gunst is the president and CEO of the consumer-electronics giant. Bob has been busy recently fending off competition from Circuit City and Best Buy, much larger companies. The Good Guys' biggest asset (besides Bob) is its intelligent service. "They have the best sales service of any electronics chain in the country," according to one industry analyst.

Tom Hopkins has agreed to be the bequest chairman for our class. Although none of us want to admit it, we are getting older. "Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana."

Getting back to the good guys, StewartRogers is wearing a white hat for his work in the Greensboro, N.C., area and has been honored with the Charles Duncan McIver Medal at commencement exercises at UNCG. This award, given to a North Carolinian who has rendered unusually distinguished public service to the state or nation, goes only to one person in a year, and there is no requirement that it be awarded annually. In 1988 Stewart began treating homeless adults in a shelter and soup kitchen. He was assisted by his wife, Betty Rogers, a registered nurse. This free clinic they started has grown into the $1 million Health Serve Medical Center. This growth was aided by numerous volunteers, extensive Fundraising and affiliation with the Urban Ministry and Cone Hospital. In the last few years, Stewart has received numerous other awards for his work. He teaches at UNC-CH School of Medicine.

A reminder that Homecoming is the weekend of October 20-21. I assume you all received word of our class plans in the newsletter. The pre-game party will be across from Topliff as usual. However, there will be one significant change. My daughter will be attending as a member of the class of 1999.I swore I wasn't going to print that, but I just couldn't help it. Take care and write.
