As if orchestrated, the clouds parted, and the sun shone brightly on the sons of Dartmouth, class of 1970, as we descended upon the Hanover Plain to celebrate our 25th Reunion. Nearly 200 strong (not counting spouses, children, and significant others), we overran the Tuck Mall and adjacent dorms, our base for a weekend packed with a multitude of activities, socializing, and good times. And every moment was filled with a renewal and strengthening of the fellowship that has made our Dartmouth experience so strong and so unique.

Ah, fellowship. For me it began early in the event when one of Mark Pfeiffer's sturdy young sons informed me that someone's barn door was open. For Gary Brooks it occurred at a class symposium on "Issues of Technology for the Future," when he was forced to admit he couldn't program his office telephone system to T.J. Rodgers's exacting standards. For Joe Adams it peaked when he permitted our class creative-arts exhibit at the hopkins Center to include a last-minute entry in the form of a photo of John Chlttick's incision from recent quadruple bypass surgery. For Dan Horton it was when his wife, Julie, admitted she was once caught after having been carried into Butterfield Hall inside a trunk to avoid parietals. Then there was the unexpected gathering of our many, many personal-injury attorneys at the base of the ledges surrounding the Bema, as large numbers of our junior '70s attempted to scale them. Best of all was the impromptu gathering of the class in front of Wilson Hall for a photo op and spontaneous rendition of "Men of Dartmouth."

Recognition, well deserved, was accorded to Star Johnson for directing this incredible event and staying cool as a cucumber through-out it. Trip Dorkey beamed for one last time as head cheerleader, announcing the steady progress toward our reunion fundraising goal of an even million. Preston and Brenda Conklin received rave reviews for our 25 th Reunion book. At nearly 400 pages, it's an epic of mammoth proportions, and I hardly exaggerate in saying so. A copy is available for all classmates for the price of postage by contacting the Conklins at P.O. Box 740, Kennebunkport, ME 04646.

New class officers were elected to lead us ever onward: Wayne Osmond, president; Star Johnson, vice president; David Noyes treasurer; John Chittick, secretary; Skip Sturman Alumni Council rep.; Stu Rosenblum, bequests; Jeff Dahlman head agent; and already hard at work, Gary Brooks, 30th Reunion chair. Star Johnson will also continue his tradition of coordinating minireunions, usually over football weekends. (He will be hosting his next such affair on Saturday, October 21, at the Homecoming game with Colgate.)

the remarkable class of 1970. Take care, everyone.
