From the May 20, 1941, Mint Bag: "BuglerBerkowitz is well pleased with the dough trickling into Hanover for the Ernest Martin Hopkins 25th Anniversary Campaign...The quantity hasn't upped much but the quality is there and from here the best was Gus Farwell's contribution in the name of his Dartmouth buddy Bert French," writes MB editor DaveCamerer, Mort was class agent. Other 1941 news items: Gordon Tony out in French Indochina; Jack Gray, on a letterhead from U.S. Naval Air Station, Pensacola, "Here I am, at last being paid by the Democrats."

Rowley Bialla, B Battery 11th Battalion, Ft. Eustmis, writes, but damned if I can make out this henscratching. Rowley...You may have been a senior fellow but you never learned how to write...this note looks like Sanskrit...His parting shot is legit, however, "Say hello to the boys and tell them to cultivate their flat feet."

Bill Geraghty, 5th Division, Fort Jackson, S.C., 45,000 stationed here...mostly motorized infantry and field artillery.

Dingle-berry in Niagra Falls assisting in the accounting and construction of a defense plant by Dupont. Not a word from G man, Joe Kiernan, out in San Diego.

Pat Uhlmann from Uhlmann Grain Cos., Kansas City—"We have a baby girl born on Easter morning...Patricia Carol." From the letterhead Pat should be able to fill the country's bread needs for the duration.

A 1996 letter from Jack Detlefsen tells us the sad news that his wife, Elly, died on May 31 of cardiac arrest. Born in Berlin, N.H., she came to Hanover in 1920 when her father, Willard M. Gooding '11, became Dartmouth's longtime superintendent of building and grounds. Son George was '66 and grandson August a '94. We extend our sympathy to Jack and his family.

Hope to see you at the mini-reunion September 19.
