This is a month in which we have no deaths to record, and what a pleasure this is! Such obits as you find in the rear of this book have previously been reported in this column.
According to our figures there were 655 men who matriculated in the fall of 1935, of whom 333 survive. Of this number 263 are graduates, and an even 70 are nongrads. Add to this total the three honorary members of the class, and you have a grand total, still with us, of 336 souls.
The summer months usually find a limited amount of news being disseminated. We suppose everyone who isn't playing polo is at the beach, golf course, in the garden, or just laying around in the sun. And so we are left with the fervent hope that some kind of news will be coming our way before the next deadline.
Word has slipped through that JimCorner, Bill Tomkins, and their team of agents once again have made their contract with the College re: the Alumni Fund, another successful year of support by 1939.
If you read your Thirty-Nine Out as assiduously as we suspect, you already know what transpired at the May executive
committee meeting. We found two of the actions of particular interest.
First, Bob Kaiser's approved recommendation that we ask the class of '89 to join with us as cosponsors of the senior scholarship program, which we have been underwriting in conjunction with the College.
This will assure the desired continuity of the program, as our numbers, and hence our support, dwindles. Secondly, the necessity of cutting back on the alumni magazine subscriptions to include only those paying dues each year. We have just received Cornie Miller's year-end figures, which show expenses over income; not a good sign for the future, with attrition in order as the years progress and most of us don't.
Finally a sprig of news. We spent some time with Dusty Rohde at the June wedding of his pretty granddaughter and a nice-looking Yalie. Dusty was walking somewhat gingerly with the help of a cane, in recuperation from a serious tumble taken this winter in Florida.
