At a time in which many of us may feel engrossed and saturated with news coverage of world events, I hope this column offers something of a reprieve. With little correspondence, I must resort to relaying news of a recent weekend gathering, enthusiastically attended by Allison Shutz Moskow, Alison Cooper Phillips, Jennifer Archibald Williams, Valerie Hartman Levy and yours truly. Trains, planes and automobiles brought us to Bostons Back Bay during a picturesque October weekend during which we walked, talked, ate, walked, talked, ate, talked, talked, talked, talked. As to some of the news shared:
Jennifer Archibald Williams has recently returned part-time to the Dartmouth development office, having welcomed baby No. 3 (Hans) on December 25, 2000, joining big brother Noah (5 1/2) and big sister Ella (3 1/2). Husband Stan '83 tends to the home front when not traveling the globe overseeing various cellular licenses for CCIL. They are all loving life in Norwich, Vermont. Jenny recently spotted Maureen Ward with her three children at a local playground. Maureen has been teaching French in the Hanover school system and is due to head to France with her family for eight months starting January 2002—bon voyage!
Allison Shutz Moskow resides in Cohasset, Massachusetts, with husband and noted architect Keith 'B3, sons Zachary (10) and Jake (7) and their lovable chocolate lab puppy Wyatt! Allison continues to actively chair the coordination of the family sponsors of METCO on the South Shore, co-chair the Cohasset school Parents Action Committee and, in her "spare" time, plans to take on conference programming as an offshoot from MSPCC. Rarely a quiet moment.
Alison Cooper Phillips is part of a private psychiatry group practice in Wellesley and provides psychiatry consults two mornings a week in a nearby medical clinic. She and husband Eddie, a physiology doctor, are busy raising son Jesse (6) and daughters Rebecca (4) and Aliza (2) in Needham, Massachusetts. And based upon a 40-minute treadmill run Alison eagerly put in over the weekend, I can confirm that she hasn't lost a step since Dartmouth days. Valerie Hartman Levy has recently moved into a newly renovated Atlanta homestead with husband, Jeff and their two sons Charlie (5 1/2) and Eli (3 1/2). Her longstanding work with Million Mom March culminated this past October with the unification of the organization with the Brady Campaign to continue to prevent gun violence through effective gun control legislation nationwide. Late October brought Val a visit from Elise Miller. Visiting Atlanta briefly from Whidbey Island, Elise remains active with an institute for children's environmental health that she launched a couple of years ago. By the way, as I'm sure Elise discovered during her stay, you could say our native New Yorker Val has formally adopted Atlanta as home these past nine years as several "y'alls" are now prominently featured in her daily vocabulary.
I wish I had more of you to report on but the news has, understandably, been light recently. I know that there is no one among us who will ever forget where you were on September 11, 2001, and to those of you directly touched by these tragic events, our hearts and prayers are with you. Many have gained much strength from the depth of our personal spirit, our national determination and our pride visibly evident on the heels of this tragedy.
And as the holiday season approaches, I hope that your spirits are uplifted by the joy, love and laughter of friends and family. Wishing you a happy and healthy 2002! All the best to all of you.
