"Ho a song by the fire! Pass the pipes, pass the bowl." How's that for an entrance to Dick Giesser request that we plug dues and mini-reunion payments, and save multiple mailings to all? The annual dues are $40 and the voluntary contribution to the mini-reunion program (a most worthy cause which I know you will all support) is $10. Your check for $50 made out to "Class of 1953 Dues" should be mailed to: Office of Alumni Relations, 6068 Blunt Alumni Center, Room 315, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH 03755-3590.

Dr. Al Hathcock writes the Medical School '54 column, which is so enjoyable. He has space unlimited to really bring his fellow Medical School graduates in-depth news. Al provided four columns on a wonderful reunion he had with Dr. Jim Rose, who retired recently from 30 years with the National Institute of Health studying and teaching about the causes of diseases. His work was in the field of molecular biology and biochemistry, studying DNA synthesis, how it worked, and what controlled it. Said Jim about his work, "I've enjoyed it; I love medicine." What more is there! Al writes that Jim has driven his family back to Dartmouth, a place that he loved, but that he shies away from reunions. "I remember my friends and classmates, and they are forever young the way I knew them." He wants to remember them that way and relives the past in his memory, fondly and frequently. Thanks, Al and Jim, for sharing that with us, and thanks to you two and all the doctors of this great class for what you have done to allow us to live the quality lives we have led, either free from health problems or, when beset, with the ability to recover from those that come along.

On a sadder side, we have lost TomGrabien. Tom did not stay on to complete his work at Dartmouth, but instead finished up in California, and we lost touch with him. Tom originally hailed from Lakewood, Ohio, and was very active in dramatics there and at Dartmouth. To his family and friends, our prayers and condolences are with you.

The class home page is up and active, thanks to the fine work of Dave Replogle, ably assisted by Andy Williams '89, son of Dr. Jack Williams. For those of you on the 'Net, the address is . E-mail addresses for your classmates are included in the home page, along with information on major class activities. In the near future it will have an interactive capability so you can e-mail the excitement of your life directly to Dave Replogle, Don Goss, or your humble scribe. Bob Malin and Freddie Carleton were also prime movers in establishing the class of 1953 as the vintage class on the Dartmouth home page. "For the room has a spirit in the embers. "Tis a god and our fathers knew his name." So long till the next encounter. Carpe Diem.
