It's a bit in the category of "old news," but the Dartmouth Club of Chicago held its biannual Deserto Award Dinner in April. The class was well represented by the likes of Bill Carpenter (who sent me the news), Jim and Peggy Vail, Charley Solberg, Herb Ray, Tom Rowe, Jim Hotchkiss, Bill and Mary Embree, Hugh and Liz Brower, Jay and Joanne Buck, and Dick and Mary Frey.

Bill also passed on news from RickMiller, who now lives in San Francisco, that Rick's son is married to Charley Solberg's daughter. Furthermore, Charley's and Rick's granddaughter,

Kristen Miller, has been accepted into the class of 2000 at Dartmouth. That makes Kristen a "double class granddaughter" and one more reason, we want to establish a good bond with the class that graduates on our 50th Reunion. News of any other grandchildren in that class will be most welcome here. As Bill Carpenter notes,"A few more young people at our regular gatherings should help keep us all thinking young."

Before leaving the aforementioned Solberg, Charley has 21 grandchildren, all of whom I think live in the Chicago area. Can anyone top that?

Gordon and JoAnn Hood attended the funeral services in Louisville, Ky., in April for Warren Cox who died after a long bout with cancer. The class sends its deepest sympathy to Barbara and their three children, and an obituary will appear in a later issue.

A note to the College from Robert Farmer '60, who is the consulate general of the United States in Bermuda, reports on the first meeting of Dartmouth alumni living there. Of interest to our class is that Robert Fowle attended and that he is one of 14 alumni who make their home in Bermuda.

Nev Chamberlain, after extolling the virtues of Florida living, reports that he

and Randi will be returning again to summer in Center Barnstead, N.H., in the months of July, August, and September.

Lastly, a request from chairman Alex Hoffman (RR1, Box 691, East Dorset, VT): The class awards committee needs nominations for "classmates whose achievements and contributions to society" should be honored by our class.

The fall mini reunion is on the weekend of October 18-20.
