Any classmate who is a real gardener, even if he does little else, makes my active list. Last month I mentioned Ed Flanders and the garden he tends. In talking with AlWalker recendy I find that he operates a large garden of both vegetables and flowers. Not only that but he has been doing his own cooking for years although he says he has two great girls looking after him. This, to me, is astounding. Fortunately, I have a grandson who actually likes to garden so I leave my backyard (patio, they call it) to him. He also is handy around the house. He has a master's in electrical engineering so is good at changing light bulbs, etc. (he even can program die VCR). Also, I have a cook. Milt Hoefle has all the qualifications, like most of us, to remain on the inactive list. He and his lovely wife have been at Heritage Village since his retirement from active practice 22 years ago doing nothing in particular. They seem quite happy and are proud of their son, Dartmouth '57, a doctor like his father, who is president of the Optometrical (I hope I have that right) Society of New York.
