As you may or may not realize, our class scholarship fund assists six students each year. A letter from the College Office of Financial Aid informs us that two of the students we assisted in the class of '97 graduated cum laude. Benjamin Morgan earned a 3.58 grade-point average and majored in film with a minor in history. Colin Grey earned high honors in anthropology, his major, and was awarded the Mary E. Westbrook Prize in Anthropology. Cynthia Yang '98, Yong Choi '00, and Matt Harmon '00 all did well and have been awarded scholarships again for 1997-98. Each has written us letters expressing their gratitude for our assistance. [Three new scholars, Suzanne Lang '99, an English major; Eric Sirianni '01, with an impressive list of achievements in prep school and a top student; and Adam Villa '01, also with a list of high achievements, have been named.]
Ed Flanders has received a letter from Rusty Philbrick telling of the death of his wife, Jean, of cancer on December 16. They had been married 17 years. His marriage to his first wife, Arleen, lasted nearly 52 years.
Jerry Sass, our reunion chairman, reports that, to date, seven classmates, four wives, two widows, seven children, and one companion have given firm commitments for accommodations at the Inn for the period from Friday, June 26, to Sunday morning, June 28. He confidently anticipates another eight or ten to make it and that we will break the attendance record for 70th reunions. Happily, there are no deaths to report this month.
