We were recently contacted by the daughter of a classmate's deceased widow. While both her parents very much enjoyed receiving the Alumni Magazine, she would now like to have it cancelled. If there are others in this situation please let us know, and we will take care of it from here. Just before returning from Maine this fall, we had a nice visit from Nancy Wilson Nesbit, daughter of our late classmate, Walter Wilson. We reminisced about previous visits in Maine when she and her family spent time with Walter and Marion at their summer home in Skowhegan. With both their sons grown, Nancy and Bob now divide their time between Connecticut, New York City, and Maine, when they are not traveling to far away places.
The Newport, R.I., Preservation Society announces the acquisition of what Christies of New York calls "the single best collection of Newport pewter in existence today" from Web Goodwin. Web was editor of the Pewter Collectors Club Bulletin, and his collection of 35 pieces is considered one of the most significant in the country. We were sorry to learn that due to an oversight of formalities, Provost Jim Wright will terminate his office next summer. However, after a sabbatical, he will return to teach at Dartmouth. Since our last column we have learned of the death of Stan Piatt in Minneapolis. He had received several awards for his work in understanding among nations. Also, four widows have died, Mary Shirley(Lawrence W.), Dorothy Ristine (JohnD. Jr.), Elizabeth McCreery (WilliamH.), and Kathryn Pallister (Mervin G.). We send our condolences to their families.
Rip's verse this month: "Forgive me, Lord, for things undone I now know that I should have done Bid me put all conceit back on the shelf. Forgive my pride in lifting up a man Who, with a wiser, loving, helping hand, Could better have achieved it by himself."
