Betty and I were very sorry that we weren't able to attend the special evening piano recital by Sally Pinkas on January 30 marking the inauguration of the Spaulding Auditorium's new Hamburg Steinway concert grand piano which, as many of you know, honors the memory of Allan Dingwall. Ginia Allison very thoughtfully sent me the recital program and a list of our classmates who were in attendance: Nancy Dingwall, Huntly Allison and Ginia, Bob and Mary Kirk, Boband Carolmae Encherman, Dave and JaneSargent, Barbara Farr, and Chuck and JudyWeinberg. (Wally Farr was recuperating from minor surgery.) Ginia noted that Nancy Dingwall looked wonderful and that one of Nancy's two daughters who attended gave a moving tribute to her father.

The recital program gave special thanks to the Friends of the Hopkins Center and the Hood Museum of Art "for providing the leadership funding for this major acquisition which, combined with additional funding from the class of 1942, honors the memory of Allan Dingwall '42." Sally Pinkas is pianist-in-residence of the Hopkins Center and associate professor at Dartmouth's music department. She has given solo recitals in London, Rome, Washington D.C., and Jerusalem.

At a mini-reunion gathering of our class last fall, Proc Page said it would be a shame for the class of 1942, "with its great record of support for Dartmouth, to disappear from the scene completely in an all too few years down the road when we are all gone." Proc then suggested that "the class establish a Class of 1942 Fund, enabled to receive gifts, bequests, life income trusts, and/or charitable remainder trusts, with the fund open-ended for future gifts. When a certain level of funding has been reached ($100,000?) the earnings from the fund would be used to provide some service for the College in the name of the class. Suggestions for use of the earnings of such a fund could include sponsorship of a scholarship, a lecture (or maybe eventually a lecture series), a performing arts performance (or series), an annual gift to the Alumni Fund, athletic sponsorships, or support for the Hood Museum or for the Tucker Foundation." Proc also said that he would like to have the class establish this fund with a gift of $5,000, but that this should wait until our 55th Reunion (or after) to see the condition of our class treasury. Proc added that if members of our class "have thoughts or suggestions about such a fund and how it should be used," they should write to Ginia Allison (Box 586, 200 Willard Road, Quechee, VT 05059) or Guy Swenson (RFD Francestown Turnpike, Francestown, NH 03043), or Proc Page (404 Appletree Point Road, Burlington, VT 05401).
