This month, I have three items for your reading pleasure...the class home page, the fall mini-reunion, and the first of several columns focusing on the 50-plus classmates who resided in Middle Mass during our freshman year.
CLASS OF 1964 HOME PAGE Due to the outstanding work of Newell Grant and Gus Buchtel, the Class of 1964 Home Page is up and available for your use. If you have access to the Internet, check it out at Once you get to the Dartmouth Home Page, click your way through, "Alumni," "Classes" and set the class menu to "Class of 1964." Once you do this you will find that you have access to a number of class-related sources of information including back issues of this column, news of upcoming events, Internet addresses of classmates (be sure to add yours by sending it to Newell Grant) and an easy way to submit news to your class secretary.
FALL MINI-REUNION Mark the weekend of October 31-November 2 on your calendar. That is the date of our annual fall mini-reunion. The festivities begin on Friday with the parade and Dartmouth Night bonfire, followed on Saturday with "breakfast" (BYOB and food) in the class tent behind Sphinx. There is a football game against Harvard, followed by the class dinner at the home of Barbara and Dick Couch, 29 Lyme Road. Everyone planning to attend should call Dick or Barbara at (603) 643-3146 (h) or (603) 643-3441 (w) before October 15th. The cost for the class tent and dinner is $25 per person, which should be sent in advance to treasurer Jim Hughes, 2 5 Laurel Road, Chestnut Hill, MA 02167. (You can save the cost of a stamp by sending your class dues $45 to Jim at the same time.) A block of rooms has been reserved for the class at the Holiday Inn in Lebanon (603-448-5070). Please call the hotel directly before September 30th to reserve a room.
MIDDLE MASS '64s More than 50 members of our class began their Dartmouth years as residents of Middle Mass. Lynn Bates (Modesto, Calif.) reports that he is semi-retired, but still on the board of The Wine Group, the third largest winery in the United States. He is down the coast from Jeff Bert (Coos Bay, Ore.), who is an orthopedic surgeon and president of the Bay Ortho and Fracture Clinic. While back East, Michael Berne (Port Washington, N.Y.) is a consultant with Fairfax Consulting in New York City. Also working in the city is Steve Blecher (Scarsdale, N.Y.), who is now vice chairman and chief administrative officer with Furman and Selz. Steve, of course, is on the class executive committee and has played a leadership role in our class's award-winning Alumni Fund performance. Fie still enjoys traveling and sailing and he and his wife, Amy, recently joined Hasty and Jay Evans to represent the class in the Sailing Team Alumni Regatta in May.
That's all I have room for this month. More next month on the illustrious Middle Mass group.
