Since our last we have lost KeyBlatchford, who died at his home in Santa Fe, N.M., on May 22 and Bob Catherine, who died in Somers, N.Y., on June 14. (Obits in this issue.)
On June 18 the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law celebrated its 35 th anniversary, at which time they gave Judge Lou Oberdorfer what they call their Lifetime Achievement Award. Lou advises that, despite heart surgery last February, "I ain't dead yet." In fact, he is back in court as a senior district judge.
Talking about being back, our prexy Bert MacMannis and wife Sally are back from an early summer trip to Stockholm, St. Petersburg, Talinin, Helsinki, visby, and Copenhagen.
"With the help of modern medicine I remain in rather good shape," says RalphHolben from his Hanover address. He can also be found at 1007 Covered Bridge Road, Holland, PA 18966 about half the time. For obvious reasons he expects to be at our 60th Reunion.
From our treasurer Cornie Miller comes a letter from the College advising that Kevin Coen, an outstanding defensive back, has decided to join the Dartmouth family with the class of 2002. This was a result of his visit to Hanover underwritten by our class. While on the subject, it is interesting to note that 32 classmates are listed as supporters of Dartmouth Educational Association, an organization out of Boston dedicated to assisting needy students pursuing courses at Dartmouth. Sadly, of this number five have died in the past year.
A letter from Les Graves notes that since retirement he and Luie spend winters in Florida, and spring, summer, and fall running between Richmond, Va., a home in Westchester County, N.Y., with several weeks in Maine. The Graveses swing through Hanover annually to lunch with the Baxter Prescotts.
Colin Holman and Ken Mac Donald are busy trying to talk some fellow West Coasters into traveling east for our 60th Reunion coming up June 14-16, 1999. Let's face it, gang, we haven't too many more years to make the return to the Hanover womb.
Until November...
