"Down with Sandwiches Up with Shrewsburys International" read the sign on the wall. When you see a sign like that hanging in the Cambridge apartment of Mike Hobbs, Cary Clark, and Ted Mascott you know it has a story of some sort behind it. If you were listening to Boston's WBZ late at night on December 17 then you would understand. It all began with a nutty disc jockey name of Dick Sommer attempting to correct an injustice done many years ago to the Earl of Shrewsbury. Seems his lordship invented a new food combination years back which was wrongfully attributed to, and took its name from, the Earl of Sandwich. Our Cambridge trio joined the crusade and, after catching Sommer referring to a "sandwich" on the air, blackmailed the DJ into attending an unbelievable meeting of the DWSUWS International at their apartment. Dartmouth men with their dates were admitted only if they brought an entry for the Shrewsbury competition. One of the more interesting prize winners was a replica of the original Shrewsbury, called the Shrews- bury International, created by Fred andMary Lena, and which, according to sourgrapes Hobbs, bore a remarkable resemblance blance to a 3½-foot long Italian sandow ... (oops) Shrewsbury. Lena's rare appearance from behind his Harvard law books was marred, however, with charges that he used undue influence on the judges. The formal speeches and not-so-formal festivities were taped by Sommer and played back over WBZ with 50,000 watts of power. I just hope nobody mentioned Dartmouth. (Rumor: the FCC is beginning an investigation of the event.) Mike reports spending New Year's Day in Pittsburgh where he saw Bob Mitchell and Nelson Orringer. Bob is finishing up at the University of Pitt Business School and is thinking of going on to law school. Nelse is currently doing graduate work in Spanish at Brown.

Barry Alperin served as best man on October 12 when Rich Feldstein married Miss Judith Gail Kriser of New York City. Judy is a graduate of Green Mountain and also attended Mills College of Education. Actually, we were holding this item until we could find out a little more concerning Rich's appendicitis, but apparently he's not talking. (That should be enough to get a letter out of him.) Zog Loomis, finishing up at Thayer, was married to Miss Sally Gage Van Stone of Needham, Mass., on December 29. Mrs. Loomis, a graduate of House in the Pines and Centenary College for Women, is now attending BU School of Business Administration. Married August 24 were Den Stewart and Miss Suzanne Harriet Perrett of Marshall, Mich. Mrs. Stewart is a December graduate of University of Michigan, and Den has just finished his studies at Michigan's graduate school of business and finance.

(At this point I might add that I have a large number of engagement announcements which, for lack of space, I have not been including for a number of months. Instead I have been holding on to them until news of the weddings come through.)

A letter from Bob Eder's wife Nancy served as a reminder for me to pass the word on that letters from wives (and parents) are more than welcome at this end of the postal system. So, come on, girls, you're part of '62 whether you like it or not; be faithful in keeping us informed even if your husbands are not. Getting back to the - Nancy writes that Bob has returned to his first choice of a profession - medicine - after a year's graduate study m French literature at Princeton. They are now living in Chicago where Nancy is also working as a researcher for Scott. Foresman & Co,, textbook publishers. Although the long range plans will lead Bob into psychiatry, the short range ones taking them to Mexico in June are helping him get through the long hours of studying.

Jim Biggs will be finishing his six months with the Army about the time you read this.
