Robbin Derry sent a birth announcement to let us know that she has a new daughter, Grace Saga Chelan Darnell, born January 28, 1998. She joins brother Dylan.

Blake Winchell wrote in, "Our investment partner ship has been set back a bit by the Asian flu, which has created plenty of opportunities for those with the intestinal fortitude. Lou Ann and the kids are great—Elizabeth, Andrew, and Richard are all growing up much too fast. I see JimBildner often, as he is chairman of a newly formed IPOd company headquartered in the Bay Area. Also am in touch with Owen "Ricko" Williams '74, Dougger Lind '74, Fuzzy Thurston '72, John Low '73, and Craig Colberg '73."

Blake also brought to our attention the June 1, 1998, Forbes article about CliffEnnico and the Money Hunt show he created. In addition, earlier this year Cliff was named "Club President of the Year" in recognition of his leadership of the Dartmouth Club of Bridgeport.

Rick Black sent in the following letter: "Three former Dartmouth ski school instructors had a mini-reunion atop Cannon Mountain on December 28, 1997. While Frank Wilich and Rick Black get together often, both hadn't seen Steffi Valar '76 in over 22 years. 'We may be older, but we can still crank 'em down the slopes,' according to Rick.

"Frank, wife Missy, Lexie 17, Robbie 14, and Haley 7 live on New Castle Island off the coast of Portsmouth, N.FI. Frank is self-employed, having ownership interests in a number of companies providing products and services to the health care industry. Rick, wife Annie, Rod 17, and Windy 13 reside in W. Simsbury, Conn. Rick heads up the Middle Market practice of the newly created insurance brokerage firm of J&H Marsh & McLennan in Hartford, Conn., where he was recently promoted to senior vice president.

"Rick also notes that when not skiing, his family, along with Frank's, cruise the New England coast together. The Blacks have an Ericson 38 sloop Merrimist, and the Wilichs, a Grand Banks trawler 46, Harvest Moon."

Rick Allen has been named president and chief executive officer of National Geographic Ventures, the for-profit subsidiry of the National Geographic Society. He is responsible for the strategic business development of National Geographic Television, National Geographic Interactive, National Geographic Maps, and National Geographic Retail and will be based at the society's headquarters in Washington.

"I am delighted to be joining National Geographic Ventures," Allen said. "For 109 years the society has made it possible for scientists and explorers to stretch the boundaries of the world—from Admiral Peary, Jacques Cousteau, and Jane Goodall to the discoverers of the lost city of Machu Picchu. Through a widening array of media, National Geographic has allowed each of us to join in these discoveries—and make our own."

Previously Rick was senior vice president of business development, Discovery Communications; deputy assistant at the Clinton White House and surrogate speaker and speech writer for President Clinton, Vice President Gore, and various Cabinet members; and chief executive officer, Pacific Triangle Management Corp. In addition, he has authored several works including the "Collected Speeches of Robert Kennedy."

Rick lives in Potomac with wife Loree and three sons: Christopher 12, Brandon 8, and Michael 6. "My greatest job in life is playing with my kids...That's one of the best things about this job; it's great to get the whole family involved in what I do.""
