Many thanks for the news notes you are sending to Jack Hubbard - they are a big help to Harry Baehr and me. Here is the first batch:
From Heinie Richardson: "Retired two years ago from public school work but have been doing part-time work as a supervisor of student teachers for the University of New Hampshire. Now that is over and my greatest efforts are to get a par now and then."
From Carter Strickland: "Everything fine with Mollie and me. Both enjoying Charlotte and our work - Mollie doing very well in her real estate. Out to Denver this June; Cynthia is married to a doctor who lost his wife two years ago. Between them they have five wonderful children. Seth and wife doing well - they also were with us in Denver. Sorry we couldn't make Hanover this fall."
And a brief note from Nat Barrows: No news — have met about four Dartmouth men here in Vero Beach, Florida, but none from 1929."
From Larry Lougee: "Visitors to Larry and Mary Lougee at Yankee Point, Moosehead Lake, this summer included Chris and JaneBorn and Walt and Marion Wilson from Skowhegan, Maine, with their house guests, Steve and Dorothy (Lougee) Tracy '27. Larry's film, The Trapper's Revenge (1941) starring the late Chief Henry Red Eagle, was declared the prizewinner at the Moosehead Lake Fall Film Festival of the Kineo Island Club."
From Jack Pillsbury: After retiring from active duty in the Navy in '63, I went back to the Navy as an historian under civil service - still carrying on. Went to my 50th reunion at Brockton (Mass.) High School in May and had an enjoyable visit with John R. Hubbard in Marshfield and John Davis in Brockton. Jack, congratulations on the good work you're doing for 1929!"
And here's the word from John R. Hubbard himself: "I'm mostly retired - do a little peddling of advertising specialties. Have had a bit of a health tussle with heart and circulation problems. Still alive and kicking and hope to see a few games this fall. Marion is fine and is still playing pretty good golf."
A good report from Paul Babcock: "All serene at 'Deerpath' on Ossipee Lake, N.H."
From Dick Owsley: "My Maggie died in March 1973 and I remarried in June 1974 in Sewickley, Pa., to Anne Paul Alexander. We live in Florida at 325 S.E. 7th Ave., Delray Beach 33444 most of the time, plus a little in Youngstown and Islesboro, Maine. I play golf with some fine Dartmouth men at the Country Club in Florida."
From Jack Ackley: "My spinal fusion still causes" some trouble so I can't drive any distance. Hope to make the Yale game with the Wiedenmayers!"
From Phil May in South Glastonbury, Conn.: "As the hair of the 'tetra branchiate' this fall is especially thick, we have put down an extra barrel of apples and another peck of dirty old wild hickory nuts - you should too."
Perley Perkins reports: "After many years overdue, I am fully retired except for isolated emergency calls, but keep active and no idle moments. Had hoped I might get a two-three month special assignment with a California hospital embarking on a $9 million expansion - something I stumbled into while visiting my son and family. But I guess the trustees figured I was too close to pushing 70 - anyone for 15 rounds?"
And from John Ball, some thoughtful words: "My wife and I moved from Nashville to Camden, S.C., in 1974. I retired in 1970 so have been on the retired list for over five years. I have enjoyed it immensely and have been able to stay plenty busy at various things. The most rewarding things we have been doing involve working for the Lord in various ways and capacities. He is our hope as individuals and as a nation.
"I find it hard to understand the radical changes that have taken place at Dartmouth, especially in the 1960's and 1970's. The permissiveness prevalent today from the White House on down to the family, and this includes colleges and universities, is responsible for much of the trouble in this land today. Everybody has 'rights' regardless of at whose expense - and nobody admits to having any 'responsibilities.'"
A note from Lucy Clark in Gloucester, Mass., reports that Dick has had a major stroke. Our thoughts and very best wishes go to them both.
