Two class initiatives, carefully crafted in several executive committee meetings the "comfort program" and the Pete Fetzherbert '36 Scholarship are moving forward quietly and steadily. In the comfort program classmates are encouraged to phone other classmates occasionally just to pass the time of day, learn how things are going, offer support and understanding, listen to difficult circumstances, and, frankly, just be available for conversation. Treasurer Ray Builter already has received more than $3,000 toward the $10,000 required by the College for establishment of the scholarship. In thinking about the scholarship, consider participation on the order of 2 percent of one year's gross annual income. It's tax deductible and can be spread out over a period of time. The scholarship will be remembrance of Dartmouth '36 as long as the College endures. In Wilbraham Mass., a playground has been dedicated to the memory of John C. Sevey "Air. Wilbraham. whose life was all about fostering community spirit and blending time, talent, and resources." Jessie Johnson (Spencer), whose son, Peter, lives with her, planned on spending Christmas in St. Louis with her two highschool grandsons, Adrian and Peter, and their father. May Carter (Tay Reitman) Wellesley' '35, is chairman of the board of a wholesale wine and liquor Whosesaler in New York and New Jersey. Says she "reads every issue of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine." She has three daughters, May, Liz, and Kim; also three granddaughters, Diana, Kristy and Kim '37.

Early in November Tana Fernald died suddenly in Punta Gorda, Fla. A warmly gracious, welcoming hostess, she with Bob was active in many class activities as well as frequent class gatherings at their home in Etna up the hill on Robert Frost Lane with its view of seven ridges across the Connecticut in Vermont. A native of Gordon, Ark., graduate of Henderson State University, she continued graduate education at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and worked in an office of the army quartermaster general during WWII. With Bob she wintered in Florida and engaged in many activities there as well as in Harding Township, N.J., and Hanover. Survivors are her husband; their daughters Carol Fernald Walker and Kathleen Adele Fernald two granddaughters; and a grandson. Services were held, with 18 class members attending, at the Church of Christ at Dartmouth College. Memorial contributions may be sent to Henderson State University, care of Dr. John B. Hall, Box 7550, Arkadelphia, AR 71999-0001.
