This month there's news from Allan Ziegler, who writes the following: "I keep seeing your e-mail address in the class column, and have been meaning to drop you a line. I think I still hold the record for the '74 graduate with the oldest child (my daughter is 30 years old). I know if you start counting backwards, you'll wonder about that one. (My wife is older than I am, and it's her daughter from her first marriage)
"At any rate, I'm still working for Core States Bank in Philadelphia. I'm sure you saw the news about First Union Bank based in Charlotte, N.C., agreeing to acquire Core States. Everyone here is sort of up in the air at this point, so if there are any alums out there who work for First Union, tell them to put in a good word for me.
"I'm still singing in a barbershop quartet and having a great time. We finished fifth in the mid-Adantic district contest last month. I see Don Reckenbeil '76 once in a while (he sings in another quartet). I'm living in Drexel Hill, which is a western suburb of Philly. Other than that, there's nothing else happening in my neck of the woods.
"If there's anything I can do to help with the 25th Reunion, let me know."
We will, Al.
Cathy and Rick Ranger and I had a late night Sunday get-together at McGarvey's in Annapolis in early January. Our '74 Anchorage connection appeared alive and well, still the same as when we had met on the same date a year prior in Washington, D.C. The Rangers were out escorting their son Owen about the East Coast in search of the best boarding school. I was duly impressed with their stamina and persistence given that they had visited something like nine schools within two weeks.
Our chat included (among other things) an overview of Celtic life and music in Galicia (which lies in the northern portion of Spain along the south end of the English Channel), high school sports (mostly basketball and swimming), reminiscences of Duke, Dartmouth, and the East Coast.
I have my own web site now, and I'll try to keep it up to date. Check out .
