Tref Wolcott '85 says she has enjoyed growing up with 16-year-old Daisy Pinero. Wolcott is one of more than 50 Dartmouth and Fuck alumni who help sponsor educations for high school students in New York City through a program called Student/Sponsor Partnership.

School in Manhattan rather than the zoned public school in the Bronx she would have attended without, the program. "Besides going to a good school, I got a really good friend/ Daisy recently told the "Fox News at Noon" television show. "Tref is my best friend."

I ref focuses on exposing Daisy—an honors student—to the career world. Since her freshman year Daisy has worked in Trefs office once a week. The program matches business people with students from school districts with high dropout rates. Students are picked based on financial need. The program requires a minimum commitment of $800 per year from each sponsor.

The program asks that sponsors get together with their students at least twice a year, but commitment levels often reach much farther. Brian Burke '84, busy with a demanding position at Goldman Sachs, finds time each month to spend with senior obert Spencer, the. student he sponsors at Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx. "It's a chance to try and make a difference to someone so hecan achieve academically," says Burke. After Robert heads off to Duke University next fall, Brian hopes to sponsor another student.
