Summer is coming, and I'm reporting on some winter happenings. That's life. From the Brownes—Joyce andBrownie—we have a report: "The children and grandchildren plus the husband of our deceased ward, Mary Fay, gave me a mega birthday party on December 26 to celebrate my 80th. We were 16 strong counting spouses, and I think it has taken until now for the restaurant to recover." In January a mini-reunion was hosted by Jack and Kay Ingersoll for the University School (Cleveland) Dartmouth '40s in Lake Wales, Fla. Attending were Jack Ingersoll, Karl Bruch, Eben Cockley,Dave Davenport, and Brownie and Crosbie MacMillen, representing Bob.

Ann Berger reported that the January Northeast icestorm was not a problem in Hanover. However, they had a good deal of snow, which she and Bob enjoyed. The year 1998 will be the big 80 for many of the class. Jay Weinberg reported that when you reach 80 the pen gets weighty. However, he celebrated in Utah skiing with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids—12 on the slope at one time.

Jack O'Shea had a great party with all his children and seven of nine grandchildren. The missing grandchildren were skiing—one in Aspen and the other with the Bates College Ski Team. Your secretary celebrated his 80th with friends on Islamorada—one of the Florida Keys—after a pre-birthday party with children and grandchildren at home.

Lew and Janet Chipman had their usual January trip to Woodstock and Hanover. Because of the icestorm they never unpacked their skis. Gard Ashley wrote with news of his visit to the Korean War memorial and the memorial to the nurses in all the wars. Last summer he sang as an alum at the Middlebury (Vt.) College French School. Small world—our grandson Gardner Pierce is somewhere related to Gardner Pierce Ashley.

Sam and Lorraine Williams had a midwinter trip to Scottsdale, Ariz., to visit their son Pete. From there they drove to Pasadena to see the Rose Parade—out on December 31 and back to Scottsdale after the parade. Sam said, "The parade is spectacular—much better watching it 'live' than on TV. Furthermore, there are no commercials to clutter things up."

Bill Sinclair wrote from Florida in February. "Many thanks for the birthday card. I do enjoy getting them each year. Play golf five times a week walking 18 holes. It's difficult to find a course that allows walking down here as golf is money driven. Had a splendid 24-day trip just before Christmas from Capetown to Cairo. Excellent game drives in Botswanna and Kenya."
