This past winter Donna and I spent several weeks visiting classmates on the west coast of Florida. Great to see Jane and Dave Dance. Dave is a golfer and a tremendous supporter of Dartmouth-Tuck scholarships and a Hood endowment fund, for example. This year to go from Connecticut to Florida they will fly to Venice, Italy, and cruise around Italy, Africa, Spain, Porfinally the Canary Islands, Bermuda, Miami, and finally reach Naples.
Reminiscing with Phyl and Bob Unangst about track coaches Harry Hillman and Elliot Noyes, Bob recalled Cliff Holmes, Staff King, and Hal Wonson as 1940 varsity track members and how they paced Glen Cunningham when he set a new world record. It didn't qualify the Dartmouth indoor track was too large. Bob paced Glen for the first half mile at two minutes and two-tenths seconds. Twelve medals made track a great sport for Bob.
After the death of his wife, Fran Imo has become active in a church widows and widowers club—men outnumbered six to one. With daughter Mary and a group of highschool students, Fran toured London, Paris, Madrid, and Rome. He trained to keep up by walking three miles a day and took vitamin pills.
In Highland Park visited with Kay and Jack Ingersoll. They have wintered there since 1970. In January the Vero Beach University School classmates played golf at the Highland Park Club. In March Kay organized a Wimbledon tournament between Highland Park and Mountain Lake.
Saw Tina and John Moore at Mountain Lake. Tina had just returned from a mother and daughter cruise. While Tina was away, John attended a PGA match in Mami. John suggested a Florida mini-reunion next winter for the '40s in Vero Beach, Lake Wales, and other nearby places.
Finally caught up with Gene and Ben Bacon. We talked about everything over a three-hour dinner. I didn't take notes but remember that they didn't tow their boat south and are planning more trips.
