Following our 60th reunion I received a note from Nels Armstrong '71, director of alumni relations: "Congratulations on such a successful 60th reunion. It was wonderful to see so many of your classmates come home for the gathering, particularly in light of the fact that so many of them are personal friends of mine. President Wright was, as you might imagine, more than just thrilled with your class Alumni Fund check. The class of 1940 surely made a difference in this year's fund effort."

Our first reunion dinner was in Common Ground, Collis Center, which had been Freshman Commons and brought back many memories. Remember the 1940 banner that hung in the Commons? Bill Pellington got it (doesn't know how) and brought it back so that we could hang it outside of the Hayward Lounge, which was our reunion class tent. Ben Bacon also had a 1940 banner, which he gave to the class. Saw at least one 1940 green jacket. Don't remember who it was who could still wear it. Acollection of memorial gift books and books authored by classmates was displayed in Rauner Special Collections Library, formerly Webster Hall.

Note from Hugh Schwarz commenting on the June DAM column, which raised some memories. Hugh did take over as head agent in 1955-56 with the help of Jack Little. Since 1981, under Ted Miller, the class of 1940 Alumni Fund giving has never faltered.

Eb Cockley left Vero Beach, Florida, to join us at the reunion. His comment: "Many of you may think we are confined to air-conditioned buildings during the summer. Not so. I usually play tennis three times aweek and manage to work in a golf game or two each week."

From Ben Bacon: "Still spending five months in Boothbay, Maine, in the summer and the winter in Fort Myers, Florida. Sold the sailboat but bought a Lyman runabout so can still be on the water. In February and March took a cruise to India, Sri Lanka, Oman, Saudi, Egypt, Jordan and Syria. In January are planning a cruise to visit Tunisia, Morocco, the Canary Islands and Portugal."
