As far as news goes, summer months are dog days for your secretary. Everyone must be on the beach or golf course. By now you must be aware that the fall mini-reunion was canceled. Too close to our 60th. The June reunion however, developed a request for the address of Art Selover. Alumni Records carries him as not interested, and could provide no clues. Can anyone help out?
An article and picture of Bill Goodman happily swinging a golf club appeared in the Danbury (Conn.) News-Times. He had just scored his first hole-in-one on a 170-yard hole on Timberlin Golf Course. The clipping chronicles Bill's successful life his exploits on the track at Horace Mann and Dartmouth, his service record, and his entry into the Danbury hat business, to the public storage and warehouse business that is going strong to this day. We are embarrassed to be so late with the news that John Kelleher has moved from his digs in Needham, Mass., to Bethesda Barclay House, 230 S. Brentwood Blvd., Apt 4E, Clayton, MO 63105-1602. This news was received on March 20, but John exonerates us in a letter in which he writes of an essay by Malcolm Cowley on what it's like to be 85. It was written five years after his book entitled The View FromEighty. Cowley notes that one can plan and make resolutions quite as firmly as one could in one's 50s or 60s. The only difference is that you mosdy don't carry them out, at least not on time. But then, ruminates John, who in his right mind would expect you to? We've been doing some e-mail correspondence with Buzz Waters expressing some thoughts concerning the media frenzy over the tragic loss of JFK Jr. and other equally pressing matters such as whether Pete Sampras could handle Andre Agassi. In the process Buzz filled us in on his battle with cancer. He's been through three years of chemotherapy and says that after his last, they thought he was about to buy the farm. The latest bulletin says he's been off chemo since December, regained a full head of hair, and feels pretty good.
That wraps it up for this month, but we'd welcome a bit of news. Try us on e-mail, if you're up to it.
