We almost spoke too soon last month, when we bragged of two months without having to report on the death of a classmate. We received a report on the very day that we had sent our column to Hanover, that Phil Dressier had died on June 14th. (Obituary in this or a succeeding issue.)
We received a nice letter trom the late Muggsey Bly's brother suggesting that we missed a very important point in our obituary in the September's issue. Muggsey's mother, who is a past president of the Dartmouth Women's Club, is still with us at the age of 102. According to Belden Bly, "never a day went by that Muggsey failed to have a long chat with his mother via the telephone." Perhaps you recall our report of some few months ago that our class election of Al Tishman to the Alumni Council was nullified by the council when we were advised that our class had grown too old to have a representative on that body. We were pleased, therefore, to note that in the minutes of the June 30 meeting of the council that Al had been duly nominated to that body for a term of three years, as a class representative from the Post-5-th Reunion Classes." Justice has been done!
Avid gardeners Bob and Jean Schill wait ed patiently for summer to come to Vermont this year. And then as cooler weather took over they began their fall routine, teaching at Castleton State College, which Bob describes as a "satisfying experience." We learned from '39 Out that it is apparently possible for those who have established life income trusts and/or annuities with the College to turn them from an unrestricted use of the funds upon death, to the more specific use of the 1939 Scholarship Fund, should they so desire. This assures that Dartmouth will forever be able to attract leading student-athletes to Hanover. Have a Merry Christmas!
