And on the seventh day, God created.. .writer's block. When the only mail I get is addressed to Car-SortOccupant and the only callers ask for Mr. Bergman, well I know I'm not Mr. Popular. That's when I rely on my extensive network of correspondents and reporters to bring you the news. First, of course, is the reliable and oft-mentioned (some may say too oft) BarryBass (brassy bra), a fellow AXA brother and my D.C. bureau chief. Barry sent an e-mail to say that he's taken a new job in Baltimore with Legg Mason in the real estate corporate finance group. Barry will be working with fellow '85 Keith Getter (the kit egret). Some of you may not have guessed that my Southern Hemisphere editor DavidKovar (dark viva do) is a man of international mystery. Unfortunately, he'll have to remain that way since his e-mail to me evaporated before I could digest the full contents. I did gather that David was part of a rescue team that went Down Under to retrieve some missing people. David, my apologies for bungling your nice correspondence. Please send it again even though I can now hear you saying, "Yeah, right!"
Who would've thought that eastern correspondent Dan Goggin would have sent me a note? Dan is a '57 and, no, he's not looking for press because the '57 column is full. Rather Dan is the father/father-in-law of Mark and Sally Goggin (gag small gory kin) and the proud grandfather of Connor (10), Mark Jr. (9) and Cassie (7). His letter contained news from The Boston Globe of the golfing victory of Dan and Connor in the grandfather/grandson division of a Winchester CC Invitational. Mark and Sally live in Glen Ellyn, Ill., and apparently had a weekend to themselves during the golf tournament.
Shiver me timbers! Midwest correspondent Michelle Duster (cheers, mild lute) just met our publishing deadline with a last second submission, her first in 14 years. Michelle is back in her hometown of Chicago, working as a freelance writer of marketing materials for non-profit organizations and small businesses. Prior to this, Michelle spent ten years in N.Y.C. producing concerts, marketing and earning her master of arts in communications from the New School for Social Research. Michelle has done a lot of traveling since graduation and now spends her free time writing fiction and poetry, salsa dancing, attending cultural events and learning how to make fused glass. Thanks to Michelle for news of her friends:
Ernestine Yuille Weaver (eleven, tiny, eerie walrus)—living in Hartford with husband David, son David (4) and daughter Eugenia (2). University of Connecticut Law School grad now working as director of development for a non-profit.
Sonia Reece Myrick (I make nice sorcery)—living in Alexandria, Va., with husband Kevin and daughter Faith (1). Spent many years as a publishing editor at the Smithsonian. Currently a technical editor at Capitol One in the marketing services department.
Sophie Folly (foolish yelp)—just married in July to Juan Velazquez and living in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Working as a press attache on her fourth overseas post with the Foreign Service. Previously worked in Cairo, Lagos and Abidjan, Ivory Coast and has been everywhere.
Veronica Jenkins (nicer jokes in van) living in Bridgewater, N.J., working in sales at Lucent Technologies and having tons of fun. Just finished her master of science in general business (concentration in project management) from Stevens Institute of Technology.
Finally, in unrelated news, JimNewman (jam 'n win me) insists that he is still a Ted.
