I am pleased to announce that the first engagement of the new year has been claimed by Ken Lee, who asked Rebecca Symmes '98 to marry him on New Year's Day 1999. Ken, who finishes law school at Boston University this year, and Rebecca, who is currently in medical school at the University of Massachusetts, are planning a spring/summer wedding in 2000.
Through the grapevine I have also learned that Jim Brennan and Katie Shutzer, both in Boston, are engaged as of Christmas Day 1998. My source" did not provide me with any more details, however, so we will have to wait for more from the happy couple themselves.
On to career notes. In December Devin Morgan moved to Boston to work for Creative Gaming Enterprises. Joe Murillo, who led a Rassias Programs trip to Spain last summer with Brendan Doherty, is now teaching high-school Spanish in Palo Alto, Calif. Dan Gonzalez is also teaching at the moment, at a private high school in Massachusetts, although he is also preparing for the MCAT in the spring and will soon join the ranks of med school-bound classmates. Speaking of which, Kris Gendron is currently in medical school in Philadelphia.
Adam Medros just took a new job in Seattle working for Amazon.com. MattBailey, having completed his master's degree at the Kennedy School, is now employed with KPMG in McLean, Va. Rebecca Oettinger has moved back to work in New Jersey after spending a year in Cleveland, Oio, and is also taking night business classes at Penn. Chris Marston, who is still in D.C. working on Capitol Hill for the House Parliamentarian, recently started Georgetown's night law school program. He is joined on the Hill by JohnStrayer, who works for Senator Carl Levin.
Finally, congratulations go out to MaryO'Connor, who completed her M.B.A. degree at NYU last fall. Mary met up with Rebecca Benn, Jenn Whithers, and JulieGoodwin in the City over New Year's, and all had a great time catching up with LeeAnn Armano, Scott Thomas, MeredithDixon, Alex Edlich, and many other Dartmouth grads at a lively New Year's bash in the East Village. That's what I've heard for this month. Keep those letters and e-mails coming.
