To all who heard my plea for news some months ago, many thanks! The response has been fantastic. Headlining the news again this month are another flurry of weddings and engagements. As I write this, Laura Bennett and Jeremie Perry have just exchanged marriage vows at the Dartmouth Chapel in Hanover, and following a lovely reception at the Sumner Mansion in Vermont, are headed off to a romantic tropical honeymoon. The wedding is yet again a testament to the Dartmouth bond. Although jeremie's D-Plan took him away from Hanover after freshman year, he and Laura kept in touch and, following graduation, found themselves together again in San Diego, where Laura was attending medical school and J eremie was training with the U.S. Olympic modern pentathlon team. Needless to say, the friendship was rekindled, and things moved on from there! All the best to the happy couple.

By the time this column is published, Karyn Bysshe will have also walked down the aisle, escorted by her father Bob Bysshe '63, to wed Joe on Aug. 28, 1999, in New Castle, N.H. Karyn's bridesmaids will include Lauren Demski and CynthiaRoberts, as well as Anne Gibson Burkholder '97 and Catherine Sterling '98. Following a two-week honeymoon in Italy, Karyn and Joe will return to the States to set up a new home with their one-year-old puppy Taggart. In the meantime Karyn is looking for a new job, shifting into consulting after three years as an English teacher and associate director of admissions at the Oldfields School. Best of luck!

On the engagement front, congratulations are due for Dan Kalafatas, who writes that on the last night of a six-month stint in Sydney, Australia, he dropped to his knee and proposed to Hadley Mullin. The pair have now returned to Boston, where they continue to plug away in the consulting world (Hadley with Bain and Dan with Carlisle). With both contemplating M.B.A. programs in the near future, however, career changes look to be in store soon. In the meantime, plans for a summer 2000 wedding in New Hampshire are coming along (on that note, Dan claims he is secretly planning a rehearsal dinner with EBAs chicken sandwiches for all...). Hmmm. Hadley?

I am also pleased to report that in January, Tyler Newby took Laurel Smith up to the top of a mountain in Northern California at sunset and presented her with an engagement ring. Laurel, whom I caught up with when she and Mary O'Connor made a brief trip to the UK in April, reported that the evening was "absolutely magical." With both wrapping up soon at law school (Tyler at Stanford and Laurel at Harvard), the couple are looking toward a September 2000 wedding in the wine country in California.

Finally, a few career notes. Doug Asano has moved to Boston with Berkshire Partners after spending two years at J.P. Morgan in New York. He successfully completed the Boston Marathon in April, and is said to be currently eyeing apartments with Wellesley sweetheart Lexi Roestel. Dan Kalafatas has mused that after redecorating most of Manhattan's Upper West Side, perhaps Lexi can work some wonders on Doug?

Another marathon veteran, GeoffLieberthal, has also joined Bain in Boston after traveling the world for year and hitting hotspots like China, Thailand, India, Nepal, and...northern Michigan. He is rumored to have been seen regularly of late in D.C., spending time in the notable company of an ex-Bainee lady friend....

And, word from this side of the pond is that Dan Flax is still in London working for Deutsche Bank. Holly Parker notes that Dan was back in the States around New Year's, where she caught up with him during a "much-too-short visit" in Killington. Sadly, word count limits are forcing me to bring this month's column to a premature close. A pile of letters sit before me, however, so look for much more to come!
