College photographer Joe Mehling '69 shot these portraits of random Dartmouth students during the fall of 1998. During that term 3,796 undergraduates were enrolled in Hanover. Another 209 were out of the country in off-campus programs. Altogether they filled 431 classes, the largest of which was Psychology I, with 206 students. To help complete their classwork they checked out 41,724 books from the library. During their spare time they fielded 14 varsity sports teams, gave 16 concerts, and staged nine dramatic productions.
