Manhattan, Columbus Avenue, Sunday afternoon, ran into Bob Dewey. Everything seemed to be in order. Sporting a blue blazer and a tan as befits his Morgan Stanley and New Canaan pedigree. Lovely wife Wendy on his arm. Barbie doll sticking out of his coat pocket. Hmm. Barbie had on a cheerleader outfit. Pretty skimpy one, too. He insisted die doll was his daughter Lindsey's. Wendy looked at me and sadly shook her head. Tori and Robby round out the Dewey clan. Wendy and Bobby met at Logan Airport in 1989 after a plane transfer went awry. That, my friends, is making good of a bad situation. And thank you, American Eagle.

Ran into Jon Root at a San Francisco dinner party. Jon's one of those guys who just couldn't quite get it together after college. First he was a neurologist. Ran the ICU at New York Hospital. Now he's living in the Bay Area and is a partner in a venture capital firm, US Venture Partners. They specialize in technological issues, bio-tech areas, and medical devices. Pick a field, Jon. He's married to Betsy Blumenthal. Betsy's a private dick for Kroll Associates. And she knows everyone in the entire world. Literally. If you don't know Betsy, you haven't left your house. They have two boys, Max and Arthur.

Got a nice e-mail from Tom Kilcoyne entitled "Why Men Are So Cool." My favorite was "same work...more pay." I'm kidding. I didn't like it. It made me mad. And I'm going to do something about it. Maybe tonight, you know, after the game's over. Tom's a lawyer in Cincinnati whence he hails. Cincinnati Country Day, if memory serves. He and his wife have a daughter, Rose. Rose wants Daddy to send more enlightened e-mails.

Read a nice essay in USA Today written by Jeff Kemp entitled "Sports and Life: Lessons to be Learned." The piece was thoughtful, well-observed, even inspiring. I went LSA Blois with Jeff, and all I can say is, man, the guy isn't nearly as composed after a couple boxes of wine. Jeff, as many of you know, had a long and accomplished career as a quarterback in the NFL. I personally witnessed his leading the 49ers to victory over my hapless Saints. Jeff is executive director of the Washington Family Council in the Seatle area.

Chris Mullery had LASIK surgery performed on both of his eyes. Newsworthy for the fact that Gino Gabianelli performed the surgery. Chris said his new perfect vision is nothing short of a miracle. Chris spends his winters teaching kids how to ski with the Ski Schools of Aspen and his summers leading motorcycle tours in the United States and Europe with Edelweiss Bike Travel of Austria. What a sell-out. Gino lives in Atlanta with his wife, Nancy, and three kids, Joey, Anna, and John. I'm hoping Gino is an eye surgeon.

I'm going to spend one more in New York writing for Spin City. Heather Locklear's joining our cast. Any more questions? That's right, Stephen, because you really have a shot at that.
