We have a copy of the newspaper of Big Bear City, Calif., with the obituary and a long article about our classmate Ed Abbott.

Since permanently moving there after retirement in 1965, he had immersed himself in the community. He served as honorary mayor, with others formed the local historical society, served on the hospital board of directors, was president of the chamber of commerce and was director for 17 years of the Community Services District. He was a Mason and a member of the Elks Club, helped establish the local Methodist Church and served for many years on the school board. In addition he was a gardener, wrote poetry, hiked, skied and played tennis and golf. Where did he find the time? Ed said, "I pray about things, but try to leave everything up to God." He will be greatlly missed by his community and friends. The widow of Armer LloydJohnson, Donna, died recently in Rockford III Our heartfelt sympathy goes to the families of both Ed and Donna.

For the poem this month, Rip chose one by Ed Abbott, "Miss Me—But Let Me Go": When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rite in a gloom-filled room Why cry for a soul set free. Miss me a little—but not too long And not with your head bowed low Remember the love that we once shared Miss me—but let me go. For this is the journey that we all must take And each must go alone It's all part of the Master's plan A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds Miss me—but let me go.
